How to do Crow Pose (Bakasana Arm Balance)

In this yoga tutorial I’ll break down a few components of Crow pose (Bakasana Arm Balance) that I’ve found and still find very useful to this day.

This pose may look daunting but it is achievable with practice, no matter what shape or size you are. The pose is very much about weight distribution and proprioception (the awareness of your body in space). In my classes I find a lot of students struggle with this pose because they don’t have a good understanding of how their body must be oriented to make this pose effortless.

** What’s covered in this Tutorial **

  • Tiger dog (knee to elbow taps)
  • ‘Chaturanga’ arms
  • Gentle (but strong) rocks back and forward
  • Single leg lifts
  • Practising toe lifts on book/bricks
  • Full crow
